5 Simple Ways Pets Make Our Lives Better

Hard day at work? Are you feeling stressed, tired or just going through a rough patch? The unconditional love of a pet can do more than just keep us company when our mood is down. 49% of adults in the UK own a pet, and some studies show people love their pets more than their other half’s (sorry about that).

Pets can be a great source of comfort, motivation and relaxation for their owners. Pets can help us to live happier livres by increasing our state of mental health. They can push us out of our comfort zones and challenge us to do more, let us stay connected to the outside world with walks, or even just be there to hold when we are feeling down.

  • Giving them a treat is also a treat for us.
  • When we see their eyes light up and tails wag after giving them their favourite toy or a treat, it makes us happy too. Kindness is contagious, and our pets are constantly giving us their all. It’s time to give something back.

  • Keep active to keep healthy.
  • Physical exercise helps us maintain a positive mental health, and does wonders for our companions. Dogs need to keep mentally stimulated, and by playing catch together, tugging on the other side of that rope, or going for an exciting walk in the park, we give ourselves and our companion something stimulating to focus on other than our every day routine. It brings us closer to our pets, keeps them happy and helps us release a little stress.

  • They know when you are happy and sad.
  • Animals are perceptive, they can tell when you are happy, tired or sad. Pets can have a soothing effect on owners just by stroking, sitting with or playing with them. So whatever mood you are in give your pet some much needed love and attention, it’s good for you and them.

  • You can teach an old dog new tricks.
  • The saying ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ is false. Older dogs learn slower but they will remember (you might need a treat or 2 more). Teaching your dog something new and watching them go on to remember it is one of the best ways of bonding with your animal, it also goes onto give you a great sense of accomplishment as well as provide your dog with a mental stimulus and improved behaviour.

  • Love is always the answer.
  • Dogs love us unconditionally, coming back home to see an excited wagging tail is the best feeling in the world. The more you love your dog the more your dog will miss you and look forward to your activates together, if you give a lot of love you get a lot of love.

Pets complement our lives, and with every new experience we get an opportunity to bond, grow together and create a memory.

What would we do without them? Tell us how your pet has made an impact on you.
